About

The first thing you should know about me is that I hate writing about pages.

Nevertheless, here we go!

I fell in love at 18 years old when Brett Gadd swept me off my feet with his kindness, humility, and charming good looks. He was 22, drove a blue mustang and always wore a hooded sweatshirt with basketball shorts (to this day, it's my favorite look on him). At the time I worked as a waitress at Chilis (to this day, the smell of queso makes me want to barf). Brett used to sit in my section and leave flirty notes on the napkins. I still have a few saved in a box somewhere.

After six months of dating, he put a teeny tiny diamond ring on my finger and promised someday he'd ask me to marry him. I didn't take that ring off until my 20th birthday, when he offered me a better ring and made good on that promise. We were 21 and 25 on our wedding day and I still don't know how anyone let us get married that young.

Brett’s a computer nerd; I’m an artist. He puts sunscreen on the kids if they're going to be outside for two minutes; I let them eat food off the floor. We love each other despite these facts. Our marriage isn’t perfect, but we try to keep it full of grace. Critical things we have in common: a fierce love for Jesus, tacos, and our two boys.

Everett Gadd made his grand debut on May 7, 2012 via scheduled c-section. He was breech and stubborn, just like his momma.

Ev starts kindergarten in the fall, a fact that makes us all want to weep a bit. He is kind, creative, gentle, friendly, and an absolute joy to be around.

Passions include: building things out of magna tiles, building things out of anything, watching Paw Patrol, playing hide-and-seek, obsessively coloring inside the lines, jumping on the trampoline, riding his bike, not eating dinner, and getting into just the right amount of mischief with his brother.

Carson Gadd made his grand debut on October 4, 2014 via surprise VBAC. He was born a month early and has been keeping us on our toes ever since.

Carson (or Car-Car as we call him) is best known for his stint as a professional velcro baby. While he's loosened the death grip since then, he still prefers to accompany me to the bathroom as often as possible. Passions include: snuggling, reading books upside down, playing with the water table, eating off other people's plates, jumping on the trampoline, and doing whatever Everett does.

These boys are the greatest gifts we will ever know this side of heaven. Every night we pray we won't screw them up too badly.

In November of 2013, I had an idea in the shower. I wanted to start a collaborative blog about motherhood, a place where mothers could share stories with one another, free from advice or judgment. I rallied a few of my writer friends, got to work, and officially launched Coffee + Crumbs on July 1, 2014. I will never stop being grateful for the abundant blessings God has poured out on this work. Running Coffee + Crumbs is my dream job, and you can read most of my motherhood-related writing there

As for this place? I've kept a personal blog since 2009 and even though I've contemplated throwing in the towel more than a dozen times, I can't seem to quit just yet. I believe it's good to have a writing home, and this is mine.

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,
as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."
